Know when your PTD Seals need Attention The DMN-WESTINGHOUSE Automatic Wear Detection System (AWDS) gives you insight into PTD seal condition without opening the valve. Instead of relying on fixed replacement intervals or waiting for a failure to affect operation, AWDS gives you a clear signal that tells you when maintenance is needed. Choose how early you want to know AWDS is available in two versions: active and passive. Both work by monitoring pressure inside the PTD body. When seals wear, air or product passes through them, changing the internal pressure. The difference between the two is when you are warned. ACTIVE AWDS: Predict seal wear before leakage starts At intervals you set, the active system pressurises the PTD body to 3 bar, closes the air supply, and monitors whether that pressure holds. If it holds, the seals are still tight. If it drops, the seals are wearing and should be scheduled for replacement. Because 3 bar is well above normal operating pressure, wear is detected before the seals actually start to leak. That is genuine predictive maintenance. Maintenance teams can plan seal replacement into a scheduled stop rather than react to a production failure. PASSIVE AWDS: Detect leakage while the plug can still switch A pressure sensor fitted to the PTD body monitors internal pressure continuously during normal operation. When a seal starts to leak, product pushes into the body and pressure rises. The sensor picks that up and signals the moment leakage starts, while the plug can still switch. That gives operators time to service the valve before product accumulates around the plug and stops it moving altogether. The passive system is the more cost-effective of the two options. Better Information for PTD Maintenance AWDS provides better insight into the condition of the PTD seals without the need to open the valve. By identifying leakage while the plug can still switch, maintenance can be planned before seal condition affects operation. With Active AWDS, seal maintenance can be aligned with scheduled stops, helping to avoid unnecessary replacement of seals that are still performing effectively. Existing PTD installations can also be upgraded with AWDS.
